The large black cat is a fully grown cat in its third and last stage of growth. It is also the starting pet for the sorcerer and sorceress. No wild black cat (or any cat) can be found in the dungeon.
There is no distinguishable difference in abilities between a large black cat, a large sunny cat, and a large tabby cat.

- Diet: Carnivore. Will not eat vegetable and fruit produce, will however, eat bread;
- Inventory: Can detect cursed items, will hiss if a curse item is detected;
- Inventory: Cannot carry cursed items;
- Inventory: Can drink potions;
- Movement: Can climb up and down ladders.
