The large spider monkey is the third and last stage of growth for the spider monkey. It is the starting pet for both the rogue and the thief. No wild large spider monkeys (or any monkey) can be found in the dungeon. Spider monkeys have a unique ability to steal items, usually from humanoid creatures.

Tips[]
The spider monkey is unique pet who comes in three different growth stages, each able to equip different types of equipment. The most grown spider monkey can equip the most types of equipment equivalent to that of a large kobold. Although attempting to level up a spider monkey to a fully grown melee behemoth is a challenging attempt to say the least.
Stealing items is the unique ability of the spider monkey. It can steal weapons and even equipped items, such as helms and shields from humanoid creatures. If successful, will render most dangerously armed creatures such as dwarves and orcs, almost harmless.
In its baby form, the spider monkey can only equip a dagger. The rogue has a spare dagger to give his monkey. The thief only carries one dagger, so her monkey has to steal one from goblins or kobolds, though with the slight disadvantage that the stolen crude dagger may be cursed. Although stealing does not reward the spider monkey with experience, stealing the weapon and later killing the humanoid creature, will be a constant tactic in the beginning. After stealing a weapon, the spider monkey will usually attack it, although it may also run away. The player will have to constantly order the spider monkey to attack the weaponless creature if it does so.
When the baby spider monkey grows into a spider monkey, it will be able to equip a shortsword and kill more passive creatures with a single strike. Its high stealth enables it to sneak around monsters without provoking them to attack (even when face to face). However, due to its clunky mechanics of jumping all over the place (and accidently jumping down ladder shafts with alarming accuracy), ordering a spider monkey to specific activities may quite often prove challenging.
If the player somehow successfully grows the spider monkey into a large spider monkey, the player now has a somewhat strong pet with stealth and stealing capabilities. It's best to equip the spider monkey with a shield and any other equipment to increase its armour class.
