The lute of charming is a magical instrument which when equipped has the chance to mesmerize enemy creature(s) for a duration of time. Upon success, hearts will appear above the creature. During this time, the mesmerized creatures can be commanded similar to pets. Feeding them while mesmerized will turn them into permanent pets.

Mesmorized fan club

A bard and his mesmerized fan club.

When mesmerize wears off (creature snaps out of it), they will usually be under a negative status effect, such as confusion. Alternately, the player may opt to free the mesmerized creature (which also will result in a negative status effect for them), which allows the player and pets to attack them. This might be used as a tactic, when faced with too many enemies, mesmerizing them all, then releasing and killing them one at a time. It might also be prudent to disarm humanoid creatures before releasing them.

The music of this lute effects all creatures in range, which makes it suitable against multiple enemies. However, creatures that have the deaf status effect, are immune to the effects of this magical lute.

The lute of charming has the same effect as the pipe of charming. The non-magical version of the lute of charming is the lute.
