"Turns everything you put into it to gold." - Knowledge on a Midas bag.
The Midas bag is less of a container than it is a magical utility tool of sorts. It transmutes any item put inside of it into gold, though usually at a lower selling price compared to selling items to a trader.
The Midas Touch[]
"The bag seems strangely light. Oh dear..." - Text when putting items into an unidentified Midas bag for the first time.
- Potions are turned into gold potions;
- Spellbooks are turned into gold spellbooks;
- One suit of plate armour will turn into a suit of gold plate armour once. Additional suits of plate armour will be converted normally into gold;
- Any other item is converted into gold coins of decreased value, compared to selling directly to traders;
- Gold items will not transmute if put into the Midas bag.
Exchange Rate[]
The amount of gold yielded by the bag in comparison with shopkeepers:
- Cursed, uncursed, and negatively enchanted items yield about the same;
- Enchanted items yield more;
- Armour seems to yield more;
- Wands and identified gems yield less.
How to Find[]
- Unidentified Midas bags always have gold inside, while any other bag would have additional items;
- A level 3 commerce skill can be used to identify the value of an unidentified leather bag. A leather bag with a significant high value will be a magical bag, either a Midas bag or a bag of holding.
Tips[]
- It is unknown if the dweomer of a bag changes amount of gold produced;
- Putting several items into the bag simultaneously will slightly decrease the cost of each item. Therefore it is recommended to put items in one by one;
- A blessed Midas bag gives about 50% of the item value;
- Gold potions have a chance to generate as nearly any type of potion in the game. If they happen to generate as powerful potions such as a potion of gain level, potion of gain ability, or potion of full healing, a Midas bag can mass produce these potions and allow a character to become very powerful very quickly;
- When the Midas bag converts an item to its gold variant, it does so based on how many of that specific item has been generated across the game. The Midas bag wont make a gold version of an item if that would cause the total amount to exceed the desired frequency of the item. The desired frequency of items tends to decrease with value;
- Caution! The Amulet of Zaw CAN be placed inside the Midas bag, which will result it being turned into 1101 gold. This is a one-way process, and once done, the amulet is gone and the game cannot be completed;
- All gold items have no effect when put into a Midas bag:
- Crown;
- Gold potion;
- Gold coin;
- Gold ring;
- Gold spellbook;
- Oil lamp;
- Plumed helm;
- Set of troy scales;
- Suit of gold plate armour.
