The Roman legions are Roman melee units unique to Fort Ludious (not to be confused with the two Roman guards at the entrance wielding spears). They are very well equipped in heavy armour, have high health, and excel in melee combat.
They may be encountered awake, confused, under conflict, or sleeping. If confused or under conflict, they may be fighting each other, as well as nearby Romans archers and other creatures (random with each new game).
Location[]
- Fort Ludious only.
Loot[]
- Gladius (always wielded, -2 to +2 enchantment);
- Scutum (always wielded, -2 to +2 enchantment);
- Crested helm (always worn, which may later be identified as a helmet, a helm of madness, or a helm of brilliance, -2 to +2 enchantment);
- Suit of segmentata (always worn, -2 to +2 enchantment);
- Chance to drop a bit of Roman legion innards;
- Chance to drop a skeleton key.
Traits[]
Roman legions have been observed to have the following abilities or behaviours:
- Alignment: Neutral;
- Attack: Weapon, melee damage;
- Diet: Omnivore;
- Movement: Normal;
- Resistance: Music. Aggravated by musical instruments;
- If under conflict, will have the description "he will attack anything" when probed.
Tips[]
- Due to the high health of the Roman legion, it will take awhile to slay one. Throwing a wand of polymorph at the Roman legion, will turn him into a creature much easier to deal with, in addition to the possibility of removing his equipment due to morphing into a new creature;
- Throwing a wand of death at an alert Roman legion will not kill him. However, if the Roman legion is not aware of the player's presence, throwing the wand of death will deal critical damage and instantly kill him.
