Rot is a status effect that negatively affects non-metal items and adds the rotted attribute to the inflicted item. A message will appear if an item becomes rotted e.g. "Your +9 dagger rots!" The non-metal equivalent of this item status effect is corrosion.
It should be noted that any creature or source that can rot non-metal items, can also corrode metal items.
Inflicted By[]
Non-metal items in the player's inventory have a chance to be inflicted by rot if subject to one of the following:
- Eating a blob of acid blob goo;
- Struck by an acid blob;
- Stuck by green mold;
- Struck by a potion of acid.
Stages of Rot[]
Non-metal items that have been inflicted by rot will have one of the three following attributes assigned to the item:
- Rotted;
- Very Rotted;
- Thoroughly Rotted.
Effects[]
- Armour will have decreased a armour class;
- Weapons will do less damage;
- After the third stage of rot, any additional rot or damage towards the item may result in the destruction of the item [untested].
Prevention[]
- The immutable attribute will render immunity against rot.
Repair[]
The following methods will remove rot from an inflicted item:
- Pouring a potion of restore ability on the rotted item;
- Reading a scroll of enchant armour will repair the rotted armour (if selected, a blessed scroll will allow manual selection);
- Reading a scroll of enchant weapon will repair the rotted weapon (if selected, a blessed scroll will allow manual selection);
- Reading a scroll of repair armour, rotted items in inventory will be restored without manual selection;
- After repairing with a potion or scroll, a message will appear: "(Item name) is as good as new."
