"Removes special abilities from creatures and some items." - Knowledge on wand of cancellation.
A wand of cancellation when used on a target results in cancelling any magic-related effect of a single item or creature. When used against some magical creatures, it will instantly destroy them. Using this wand will gradually increase the death spell skill.
Obtained From[]
- Dungeon (chance to be found in chests or lying on the ground);
- Kobold shaman (chance to drop);
- Emporium (sold if available).
General Effects[]
Effect of zapping at an item:
- The blessed or cursed status effect of an item will be negated, turning the item into an uncursed item. This will apply to all items in addition to the other effects mentioned below;
- A potion will become a bottle of water;
- A scroll become a scroll of blank paper;
- A wand will lose a single charge;
- Negative or positive charges are removed from enchanted items. This consumes a charge from the wand for each positive or negative removed from the item;
- If you or your pet has been zapped recently with a wand of cancellation, polymorph traps will not work on you; The effect wears off quite quickly. Instead you get the message X seems impotent. (Does this also apply if you die while polymorphed into another creature? Will you still revert to human form, or is it game over?)

No Effect[]
List of creatures that one might think should be effected in one way or the other, does not appear to cancel its abilities:
- Hellhound and Hellhound Pup - Does not cancel fire breathing ability;
- Wasps - Changes the number of wasps.
Tips[]
- This wand is also the only wand that does not have a blessed/uncursed/cursed status effect on it;
- Throwing a wand at a creature will only effect said single target. However, doing so will not waste any charges;
- Throwing this wand at items, unfortunately does not work;
- Wands can be sold to the shopkeeper;
- Wands can be recharged with a scroll of charging or from a shock source e.g. wand of lightning;
- As the wand does not come with a blessed or cursed status, it makes it easily identifiable if the player finds a friar early in the game or if all items have been identified by a dweomery skill or amulet of dweomery;
- A wand of cancellation cannot be used to uncurse an equipped cursed wand. Although the two wands can be equipped, the target is the character and cannot target a specific item held or in the inventory.
